Grief & Loss

Grief is a natural response to loss or prolonged suffering, and can develop into further distress if left untreated. Emotional distress can persist and include shock, disbelief, sadness, guilt, anger, and fear.

Individual diversity, family and social networks, and micro- and macrocultural influences contribute to the way one experiences grief. Most people will experience common or normal grief and will adjust to loss; others will experience more severe reactions such as prolonged or complicated grief and will benefit from treatment.”
