Hello! My name is Justine Fram (she/her), and I am a student therapist under the direct supervision of Christina Janiga. At this time I provide counselling for people ages 16 and older. If you are struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationship issues (family, romantic or otherwise), low-self esteem, big life transitions, or if you’ve recently left an abusive relationship, I’m here to offer you support.
Looking back, I knew I wanted to be a therapist from a young age, since I was in high school. I remember being thrilled to take an introduction to anthropology, psychology, and sociology (and after that class, I had a desire to dig in deeper). In university, I was drawn to courses that were geared towards mental health, relationships, and understanding our humanity, and I obtained my undergraduate degree in sexuality, marriage, and family studies. Completing a master’s degree felt daunting at that time, so I hit the pause button on my education, and sought out employment. I knew I wanted to work in a helping profession of some kind, so I worked at a women’s centre. Here I was able to get a glimpse into what being a therapist would be like, but I only could offer a single session to each client. There were moments where I was able to use what I had learned in my schooling in a session, and it was very rewarding to make a positive impact on a client. I began to feel a strong desire to finally become a therapist, and that it was time to go back to school.
I am passionate about all aspects of mental health and psychology. Because of this, I’ve had training that goes beyond the scope of counselling. I am certified to administer the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®)(personality assessment). This test can be very helpful in understanding yourself, understanding areas for professional development and growth, as well as in relationships with others.
Along with working at a women’s centre, I’ve also worked in the nonprofit field (with Big Brothers Big Sisters and a not for profit in Kampala, Uganda.) My experience in the nonprofit sector has given me an understanding of how nonprofits function, as well as opportunities to learn from so many clients, including a cross-cultural experience from working abroad. I have also cared for children for over 12 years as a babysitter and professional nanny. I learned a great deal about family dynamics and attachment from these experiences.
As a therapist, I work to offer a calm, supportive and open atmosphere for you to feel safe to share your story. In our first session, I’ll listen, support, and together we will determine your goals for therapy that we will continue to work on throughout our time together. I am here to be a fresh set of eyes for you, to be a trusted, reliable person that you can count on for support. If what I’ve shared with you here resonates with you, and you feel ready for therapy, please reach out, I’m accepting new clients.
