EMDR Supervision & Consultation in Ontario

Whether you are an Ontario therapist seeking EMDR-specific clinical supervision that counts toward your CRPO hours, a trained EMDR therapist working toward EMDR Certification, or a Certified EMDR Therapist pursuing the Consultant-in-Training (CIT) pathway — Christina Janiga is an EMDR Canada and EMDRIA Approved Consultant offering individual and group EMDR supervision and consultation virtually across Ontario and in person in Burlington and the Halton Region.

Christina is one of a small number of practitioners in Ontario holding dual Approved Consultant designation with both EMDR Canada and EMDRIA. She also meets all CRPO requirements for clinical supervision, meaning your EMDR supervision hours with Christina can serve double duty — counting toward both your EMDR credentials and your CRPO clinical supervision requirement at the same time.

Who Is This For?

CRPO Supervision + EMDR Consultation in One

You are a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) or RP(Qualifying) in Ontario who needs CRPO-compliant clinical supervision hours and wants that supervision grounded in EMDR practice. Because Christina meets all CRPO supervisor requirements, your sessions count toward both your CRPO hours and your EMDR development — without splitting your time or budget between two different supervisors.

EMDR Certification Consultation

You have completed EMDR basic training through any EMDRIA-approved program and are working toward EMDR Certification. You need 20 consultation hours with an Approved Consultant. Christina offers individual (1:1), dyadic (2:1) and group (up to 6:1) consultation, and all 20 required hours can be completed through a combination of both formats.

Consultant-in-Training (CIT) Pathway

You are a Certified EMDR Therapist ready to pursue the EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training designation. The CIT pathway requires mentorship from an Approved Consultant. Christina has guided therapists through this process and currently supports a network of Consultants-in-Training across Ontario.

Touchstone Institute Post-Training Consultation

You completed your Foundational EMDR Therapy Training through the Touchstone Institute and need to complete the 10 consultation hours required as part of the Touchstone post-training process. Christina trained under Dr. Mara Tesler Stein at Touchstone and is an active member of the Touchstone Institute Therapist Network, making her an ideal consultant for Touchstone graduates seeking continuity of approach. (Note: this 10-hour requirement is specific to the Touchstone training program — it is not a universal EMDR Canada/EMDRIA post-training requirement.)

Your Path to EMDR Certification in Ontario

EMDR Certification is available through EMDR Canada and/or EMDRIA. Both pathways have similar requirements. Christina supports you at Steps 2, 3, and 4.

Step 1 — Complete an Approved EMDR Basic Training

Complete Parts 1 and 2 of an EMDR basic training through an EMDR Canada or EMDRIA-approved program (e.g., Touchstone Institute, Barbara Horne, Sue Genest, Amanda Bell, Thomas Zimmerman/David Archer, or another approved provider).

Step 2 — Build Your Clinical Practice Using EMDR

Begin using EMDR with clients. Certification requires a minimum of 50 EMDR sessions completed with at least 25 clients. Christina’s consultation supports you in developing clinical depth, case conceptualization skills, and confidence as you accumulate this experience.

Step 3 — Complete 20 Consultation Hours with an Approved Consultant  – Christina can provide these

To apply for EMDR Certification, you need 20 hours of consultation with an EMDR Canada or EMDRIA Approved Consultant. All 20 hours may be fulfilled through a combination of individual (1:1) and group consultation with Christina. These hours can also count toward CRPO clinical supervision requirements.

Step 4 — Complete 12 CEU Hours in EMDR

Twelve hours of EMDR Canada or EMDRIA-approved continuing education are required. Christina can recommend current approved programs and upcoming trainings.

Step 5 — Apply for Certification

Submit your certification application to EMDR Canada and/or EMDRIA. Christina provides clear documentation of your consultation hours and can support you through the application process.

Becoming an EMDR Approved Consultant: The CIT Pathway

If you are a Certified EMDR Therapist with a passion for supporting other therapists’ growth, the Consultant-in-Training (CIT) designation may be your next professional milestone.

What the CIT Pathway Involves

The CIT pathway (through EMDR Canada and/or EMDRIA) requires that you work under the active mentorship of an Approved Consultant. This includes receiving consultation of your consultation work, developing your consultation skills, demonstrating competence in the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) and 8-phase EMDR model and supporting other therapists’ EMDR practice. Christina provides structured, individualized mentorship for therapists in the CIT process.

Christina's Approach with EMDR Consultation and Supervision

Christina provides EMDR consultation and EMDR supervision to therapists across Ontario. Her services are tailored to EMDR therapists seeking certification, professional growth, or support in enhancing their clinical practice. Her approach emphasizes structure, collaboration, and a deep commitment to empowering psychotherapists on their professional journeys.

Building a Strong Foundation

Christina’s consultations focus on deepening therapists’ understanding of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) Model, the cornerstone of EMDR Therapy. She helps clinicians:

  • Master the eight-phase EMDR protocol to ensure their practice is effective, safe, and grounded in empirical evidence.
  • Integrate EMDR Therapy with other therapeutic modalities, whether as a standalone treatment, part of a phased approach, or a parallel integration alongside frameworks like Ego-State Therapy, Internal Family Systems (informed), Attachment Theory, Somatic Therapy (including DBR Therapy) or the Theory of Structural Dissociation.

Christina provides clear guidance on case conceptualization and treatment planning to help therapists deliver comprehensive, client-centered care.

Fostering Ethical and Client-Centered Practice

Christina prioritizes the therapist’s ability to center their clients’ unique needs while maintaining professional integrity. Her supervision emphasizes:

  • Tailoring EMDR Therapy to respect age, gender, culture, and other individual factors.
  • Developing collaborative, empowered therapeutic relationships that prioritize boundaries, attunement, and emotional regulation.
  • Practicing with detached compassion to help therapists manage the emotional demands of their work, reducing the risk of burnout or vicarious trauma.

She also ensures that psychotherapists align their work with ethical standards and organizational requirements, delivering care that is both effective and responsible.

Supporting Professional Growth

Christina is committed to helping EMDR therapists grow professionally and personally. Her approach includes:

  • Encouraging therapists to engage in lifelong learning and self-care practices.
  • Prioritizing self-care and recognizes that a well-supported clinician is better equipped to provide exceptional care to clients. As part of her consultation and supervision services, Christina encourages therapists to experience EMDR Therapy as clients.

She creates a supportive environment where therapists can develop their skills, refine their approach, and maintain a sustainable practice.

Christina offers expert guidance for therapists working toward EMDRIA or EMDR Canada certification. Whether aiming to become a Certified EMDR Practitioner or an EMDR Consultant, therapists can rely on her to navigate the certification process with confidence and clarity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — and this is one of the most practical reasons Ontario therapists choose to work with Christina. Because Christina Janiga is a Registered Psychotherapist who meets all CRPO requirements for clinical supervisors, your EMDR supervision sessions with her can count toward your CRPO clinical supervision requirement. Rather than splitting your time and budget between an EMDR consultant and a separate CRPO supervisor, you can meet both requirements in one place.

In Ontario, “EMDR supervision” typically refers to CRPO-compliant clinical supervision focused on EMDR practice. “EMDR consultation” refers to the case consultation required by EMDR Canada and EMDRIA for certification, which must be provided by an Approved Consultant. Christina holds both credentials: she is an EMDR Canada and EMDRIA Approved Consultant and meets all CRPO clinical supervisor requirements — so her sessions fulfill both functions simultaneously.

To apply for EMDR Certification through EMDR Canada or EMDRIA, you need 20 consultation hours with an Approved Consultant, at least 50 completed EMDR sessions with a minimum of 25 clients, and 12 hours of EMDR-approved continuing education. The 20 consultation hours can be completed through any combination of individual (1:1) and group consultation with Christina.

Yes, if you completed the Foundational EMDR Therapy Training through the Touchstone Institute, 10 consultation hours are required as part of the Touchstone post-training completion process. This requirement is specific to Touchstone — it is not a universal EMDR Canada requirement for all basic training programs. Christina trained under Dr. Mara Tesler Stein at Touchstone and is an active member of the Touchstone Institute Therapist Network, so she is an option for Touchstone graduates.
