Introduction

Hello! My name is Naomi (she/her), and I am a student intern under the direct supervision of Christina Janiga. Currently, I offer counselling support for people ages 18 and older, for a variety of mental health or life challenges, including depression, general anxiety issues, postpartum depression or anxiety, work related stress and those wanting to improve their professional or personal relationships.

I knew therapy was a “thing” after I read my first issue of Psychology Today while waiting in the doctor’s office when I was ten years old. I asked for my own subscription for my eleventh birthday and the rest is history.  I personally have benefitted from counselling, so I’m not just a provider, I’ve also been in the other chair. I reached out for help after the birth of both my children. It was a scary and lonely time (as it is for many new parents). Having a safe and non-judgemental space to talk and be heard, a time just for me, was extremely helpful and healing.

Professionally, I am coming from a career in marketing and leadership with 17 years’ experience in progressive roles in the healthcare, beauty, banking, and not for profit industries. I worked most recently at an international children’s rights organization that focuses on gender equality.  I have been a team leader, responsible for coaching and supporting development. Leading and coaching people was the greatest joy of my previous career; listening and providing perspective on interpersonal conflicts and supporting career goals. I found satisfaction in helping colleagues solve problems and achieve their goals by empowering them and encouraging them to think differently. My interest in psychology intensified in the past several years, as mental health has never been more important as we navigate uncharted territory due to the pandemic. I reconsidered my career path as a result of our changing world.

You can expect compassion, understanding, and above all, a personalized approach in our counselling sessions. In therapy I take a person-centered approach, which means I want to get to know you, your goals, and the areas in your life that might be helping or holding back your progress. Together we can work to ensure your life is more sustainable, happy and balanced.
