CBT Therapy and Counselling for Substance Use Recovery, Anxiety & Trauma in Ontario

Supportive, Practical, and Evidence-Based Counselling for Teens (16+) and Adults

Hello! I’m Krishauna – a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) offering virtual and in-person CBT-based psychotherapy and counselling for individuals navigating substance use recovery, anxiety, and trauma.

I work with adolescents aged 16 and up, as well as adults, providing a safe, compassionate space to explore the deeper roots of your challenges, while equipping you with practical tools to create meaningful change.

In addition to my work with anxiety, trauma, and addiction recovery, I also support adult men struggling with emotional regulation, relationship concerns, and anger management.

Counselling for Substance Use Recovery, Anxiety, and Trauma: What to Expect

In therapy, I take a person-centered and integrative approach, meaning I meet you where you’re at — emotionally, mentally, and in your healing journey. While I use a variety of modalities depending on your needs, my work is deeply rooted in trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), especially when supporting:

  • Addiction and substance use recovery
  • Generalized anxiety and panic symptoms
  • Post-traumatic stress symptoms and complex trauma

CBT is an evidence-based therapy that helps you understand how your thoughts, behaviours, and emotions are connected — and how to shift patterns that no longer serve you. Whether you’re working to break free from addiction, reduce anxiety symptoms, or heal from trauma, CBT can offer structured, goal-oriented support for lasting transformation.

Why CBT Works for Addiction, Anxiety, and Trauma

CBT is especially effective for individuals facing co-occurring issues like substance use and trauma. Here’s why:

  • Builds coping skills to manage cravings, triggers, and overwhelming emotions
  • Identifies and challenges negative thought patterns linked to anxiety and shame
  • Helps process traumatic memories in a safe, structured way
  • Promotes relapse prevention strategies that actually work
  • Encourages self-compassion and emotional regulation

Together, we’ll work on building practical skills while also exploring the emotional experiences and patterns that may be holding you back.

A Safe, Non-Judgmental Space for Healing and Growth

As a therapist, one of my top priorities is to create a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences openly and honestly. Whether you’re recovering from addiction, managing chronic anxiety symptoms, or coping with the impact of trauma, you deserve support that feels respectful, consistent, and grounded in trust.

Why I Do This Work

My journey into psychotherapy began from a very personal place.

When I was young, a loved one of mine passed away and this was an incredibly difficult experience for my family. A family member of mine who struggled with their grief sought support in the form of psychotherapy and counselling and it was at this time that I learned what therapy really ‘was’ and was able to understand the benefits and impacts it could have on someone’s healing journey. I witnessed firsthand how therapy can be a lifeline during dark and painful times.

It wasn’t until I was older that I started to consider psychotherapy and counseling as a career option for myself. Throughout my time working in the hospitality industry, I interacted a lot with different people and I was exposed to the different challenges that people face in their life such as substance use recovery, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, addiction, and emotional dysregulation. While working in this field, I was told by others that my presence, thoughts and support were really helpful. This opened my eyes to the kind of impact I could have on someone’s life and it really ignited my passion to be able to help others navigate whatever life circumstances they may be going through.

Overtime, I worked with mentoring youth in underserved areas of the GTA, supporting adolescents and families facing socioeconomic stress, and helped individuals reconnect with their resilience. These experiences taught me how to build authentic connections, foster trust, and hold space for deep healing — all of which now shape how I show up as a psychotherapist.

Ready to Begin CBT Therapy and Counselling for Addiction, Anxiety, or Trauma?

Starting therapy whether it’s for your first time or not, can be exciting. At times it can also be nerve wracking especially when you’re reaching out for unknown factors and symptoms such as anxiety, trauma responses, ADHD symptoms, or substance cravings. This is normal, and quite frankly, expected!

Therapy is a space that can bring about hope, improvement, and self-discovery, while also helping you uncover old narratives and connecting with deep emotions that allow for healing. Essentially, therapy is a self-commitment to bettering yourself, and you won’t have to do it alone.
