Introduction

Hello, I’m Marina — a Counselling Intern and Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) offering reduced-rate therapy at $125 per session for individuals aged 16 and older. I work in person in Burlington and virtually across Ontario, supervised by Christina Janiga. I support teens, young adults, and women navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties — including those dealing with the emotional aftermath of difficult or harmful relationships. My approach is warm, collaborative, and genuinely trauma-informed, shaped by years of community mental health work alongside people facing complex life challenges.

Every session with Marina is clinically supervised by Christina Janiga — Registered Psychotherapist, Certified EMDR Therapist, and Approved EMDR Consultant. You receive the care of a thoughtful, dedicated therapist at a rate designed to make therapy genuinely accessible.

My Approach to Therapy

I take a person-centered approach to therapy, meaning I meet you where you are and work to understand your unique experiences and the challenges you’re facing. I also use techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) to help you build practical coping skills and better understand the thoughts and emotions that come up in your daily life.

How CBT AND EFT can help with relationship difficulties and life changes

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It is particularly effective for anxiety, depression, and the kind of circular thinking that keeps you stuck. It gives you practical tools you can use between sessions — not just inside the therapy room.

EFT (Emotion-Focused Therapy) works at a deeper level — helping you identify and process the emotions that sit underneath surface patterns, particularly in relationships. Where CBT helps you think differently, EFT helps you feel more fully and safely. Together they address both the mind and the emotional body.

Together, we can work towards developing healthier coping strategies and gaining clarity around your emotions, making it easier for you  to navigate both relationships and everyday life.

A little bit about me

My journey into the mental health field began at a young age, sparked by a curiosity about psychotherapy and a desire to understand how it could help people. At the time, I was navigating my own mental health challenges and felt drawn to learning skills that could support others on their mental health journeys. This sense of calling has stayed with me and ultimately guided me toward a career in psychotherapy.

My first personal experience with therapy was around the age of 15, when I sought support for anxiety and depression. Through that experience, I witnessed firsthand the meaningful impact that different therapeutic approaches can have.I was able to gain practice coping skills for managing anxious thoughts, and was able to move beyond over-intellectualizing my experiences and begin connecting more deeply with my emotions. These experiences shaped my appreciation for integrative therapy and the importance of finding approaches that truly resonate with each individual!

Over the past several years, I have worked with Carol Anne’s Place and Wesley Urban Ministries, supporting individuals who are unhoused. This work gave me direct experience supporting women navigating trauma, intimate partner violence, and the process of rebuilding safety and identity from the ground up. It shaped my commitment to trauma-informed, non-judgmental care — and my deep respect for the resilience it takes to reach out for help.
