EMDR Group for Therapists

Providing Psychotherapy and Counselling services for therapists and helping professionals, in person at our office in Burlington and virtually online across Ontario.

Do You Feel Exhausted, Overextended, or Like You're Carrying Everyone Else's Needs?

You are not alone. Many helping professionals silently carry the weight of burnout, compassion fatigue, and chronic over-responsibility—a pattern of constantly caring for others while struggling to care for themselves.

You dedicate your time, energy, and emotional capacity to supporting others through difficult moments. Whether you work in healthcare, mental health, education, social services, caregiving, or another helping profession, the demands of your role can leave you feeling depleted, overwhelmed, and disconnected from yourself.

As a helping professional, maybe you:

  • Feel emotionally and physically exhausted, even after time off
  • Find yourself carrying clients’, patients’, students’, or coworkers’ struggles long after the day ends
  • Struggle to set boundaries and often put others’ needs before your own
  • Feel guilty saying no, taking breaks, or prioritizing self-care
  • Notice feelings of resentment, numbness, or disconnection creeping into your work
  • Feel responsible for everyone’s wellbeing and find it difficult to ask for support
  • Worry that slowing down means letting others down
  • Feel stuck in a cycle of overgiving that is no longer sustainable

If this resonates, you’re not alone. These patterns are often rooted in nervous system responses, past experiences, professional conditioning, and the expectations placed on those in helping roles.

This EMDR Group for Helping Professionals is a space to begin healing the patterns that contribute to burnout, compassion fatigue, and difficulty maintaining healthy boundaries—so you can continue doing meaningful work without sacrificing your own wellbeing.

You will benefit from EMDR Group for Therapists if you:

  • Feel emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed, or disconnected from your work
  • Struggle to separate your professional role from your personal life
  • Have difficulty setting and maintaining healthy boundaries
  • Experience guilt when prioritizing your own needs
  • Feel responsible for fixing, rescuing, or supporting everyone around you
  • Want to move from survival mode to a more sustainable way of living and working
  • Are looking for support from others who understand the unique challenges of helping professions

Frequently Asked Questions

It is a small, confidential group for helping professionals who carry burnout, compassion fatigue, and money-related stress. Across three live two-hour sessions, you process the experiences that fuel overgiving, people-pleasing, and money barriers using EMDR therapy. The work helps you regulate your nervous system, identify your “money survival style,” and build a more sustainable relationship with your practice and your life.

This group fits therapists and other helping professionals — in healthcare, mental health, education, social services, or caregiving — who feel emotionally exhausted, struggle to set boundaries, feel guilty prioritizing their own needs, or want to move out of survival mode. If you feel responsible for everyone’s wellbeing and find it hard to ask for support, you belong here.

The group uses the Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (GTEP), a form of EMDR therapy. A key feature is privacy: no traumatic material is shared among participants. You process your own experiences within the safety of the group without disclosing details to others.

No. The group is designed for helping professionals seeking their own healing, not for clinicians learning to deliver EMDR. You do not need any EMDR training or background to participate.

The group holds 4 to 10 participants. The fee is $200 per two-hour session. Reduced-cost pre-screening intake is provided through the Internship Program at no cost to you.

Yes — pre-screening is required. You complete a trauma questionnaire and a 60-minute phone or virtual screening with a supervised intern psychotherapist. This session clarifies the group dynamics and reviews informed consent, and it helps determine who will benefit most from the group format.

Sessions run at the Burlington, Ontario office, and virtual attendance is available for those who cannot attend in person.

Christina Janiga, RP, an EMDR Certified Therapist and Consultant, leads the group, supported by a counselling intern certified in Brainspotting. You can book a free 15-minute consultation first if you would like to ask questions before committing.
